Braces Treatment (Brackets)
Braces Treatment (Brackets)
Traditional Strength, Proven Results: For a Permanent and Healthy Smile
Braces Treatment (Brackets) is one of the fundamental and most commonly used methods in orthodontics. Brackets, which are fixed to the teeth with special adhesives, move the teeth slowly and controlledly into their ideal positions through the orthodontic wires passing through them and the forces applied to these wires. It continues to be an effective solution for individuals of all ages, offering reliable and permanent results in the treatment of complex jaw and dental irregularities.
Who is Braces Treatment Suitable For?
Braces treatment can successfully correct a wide range of orthodontic problems:
- Severe dental crowding and irregularities.
- Significant malocclusions (mismatch between the upper and lower jaw).
- Large gaps between the teeth (diastema).
- Eruption of impacted teeth.
- Malocclusions leading to temporomandibular joint problems.
- Correction of shifts that occur after tooth loss.
How Does Braces Treatment Process Work?
The treatment process begins with personalized planning and generally includes the following steps:
- Comprehensive Examination and Diagnosis: Intraoral and extraoral photographs, panoramic and cephalometric X-rays are taken. Digital measurements of the teeth and jaws are taken, and a treatment plan is created.
- Application of Brackets: In accordance with the treatment plan, metal or transparent/ceramic brackets are bonded to the tooth surfaces with a special adhesive. Then, orthodontic wires are placed into the brackets.
- Monthly Check-ups: Regular check-ups (usually monthly) are performed to ensure tooth movement and monitor the progress of the treatment. During these checks, wires are changed or adjusted.
- Retention Phase: After the teeth have moved to the desired position, retention appliances (fixed or removable retainers) are used to maintain their position and prevent relapse. This phase is vital for the permanence of the treatment.
What are the Types of Braces?
- Metal Brackets: The most commonly used and durable type of bracket. They have become smaller and more comfortable with advancing technology.
- Transparent (Ceramic) Brackets: They are more aesthetic as they are tooth-colored or transparent. They are especially preferred by adults who have aesthetic concerns.
- Lingual Brackets: Since they are placed on the inner surface of the teeth, they are completely invisible from the outside. They are custom-made for the individual.
